How the Flossy Possy Helped Clear Up Conflict for Me
I recently watched a chick flick about four girlfriends reunited on a trip after graduating university 10 years ago.
Besides it being hilarious (Tiffany Haddish is gold), I found myself moved by how well they demonstrated and captured each character’s quirks or neuroses.
Whether it was shoving everything down and pretending to be perfect when it’s not, being afraid to go out of your comfort zone and have self-confidence, not being able to control your emotions that cause chaos, or not being able to let things go, I found myself comforted that everyone’s got something.
Navigating Conflict in Relationships
I believe navigating through relationship conflicts is one of the most difficult and painful things to do.
Sometimes you don’t say enough and sometimes you say too much. Either way, you’re left with regret on how you handled it.
This letter is not long enough to go into the ways to handle conflict, but it is short enough to think about how close relationships that hold value will 100% cross this road.
What Conflict Reveals
One thing I’m learning is how conflict serves me.
It shows me who I’m working with.
Is the person across from me capable of hearing me, listening, and responding genuinely despite their own perspective and experience?
Or do they react, get defensive, and throw darts?
Maybe they get anxious and become people-pleasers or agree and withdraw with no intent for a solution.
Whatever their reaction, it shows me who they are.
I get a clear picture of who I’m working with, and it gives clarity regarding how I want to be with them moving forward.
Asking the Right Questions During Conflict
Because conflict is inevitable, it’s probably a good question to ask yourself: “How do I like to be responded to or treated when conflict happens?”
Not only will that answer help you feel more grounded in conflict, but it will also help it feel less rejecting and give you a microscope into that person’s personality.
Lessons From the Flossy Possy
Thankfully, the girls’ trip shows us not how to do it, and then how they should’ve done it all along.
The Flossy Possy reunites smarter and stronger than ever, ready to take down any cheating husband, personal insecurities, career blows, and wild personalities while looking fly AF. (Queen Latifah is a Queen!)
These are my honest and raw thoughts.
With truth & love,
Katie
